About Henry

My name is Henry Hyde. I am 7 years old. I started paddling at about 3-1/2 years old when I lived in Durango, Colorado in 2004. I started out in the pool at the Durango Rec Center. I didn't get to go on the river until the following summer at FibArk 2005 in Salida, Colorado. It was really scary back then because the river is really much bigger once you're down in the water.

In the spring and summer of 2006, I got to start learning to paddle on the river. My Dad and I paddled almost everyday, sometime two or three times a day. I learned to paddle the "Town Run" on the Animas River in Durango. It isn't really that hard, but like any river, if you don't pay attention, you can get into trouble quickly. I had two swims and one pin on my first run from 32nd Street down to Santa Rita Park.

In 2007, I started to learn to do Wildwater, K-1 Slalom, Rodeo, and general playboating. I got to compete in the Colorado High School Cup, the north American Junior Olympics Whitewater Championships, US Cup #3 & #4 (finals), and the Lyons Outdoors Games. It was hard, it was scary, and it was super fun. I grew up a lot.
